Add Sensors

Each SNZB-02LD sensor must be paired with the hub before it can send readings. Pairing is done via the local hub UI.

Before you start

  • Make sure your hub is linked to your ChillCheck account
  • Have your sensors and a small pin or paperclip ready (to press the reset button)
  • Do this from a device with a browser on the same network as the Pi

Pairing a sensor

  1. Open http://chillcheck.local and go to the Sensors tab
  2. Click + Pair sensor
  3. Follow the on-screen steps:

Step 1 — Initiate pairing mode on the hub

Click Start in the hub UI. The hub opens a 120-second pairing window.

Step 2 — Put the sensor into pairing mode

Hold the reset button on the back of the SNZB-02LD for 5 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly (typically a rapid triple-blink).

New sensors pair more easily

Brand-new sensors are often already in pairing mode when you first remove them from the packaging. If the LED flashes when you first install the battery, try the hub UI first before pressing reset.

Step 3 — Wait for the hub to detect the sensor

The hub scans continuously. Most sensors are detected within 10–30 seconds. The UI will show "Sensor found!" when detected.

Step 4 — Done

Click Done. The sensor will appear in the Unassigned list on the Sensors tab.

Repeat for each sensor

Pair one sensor at a time. Repeat the process for each cabinet you want to monitor.

Sensor placement

Place each sensor:

  • Inside the cabinet, on a middle shelf away from the door and evaporator unit
  • Not touching ice-covered surfaces (this can give inaccurate readings)
  • In the warmest part of the cabinet (this is usually the most important area for compliance)

For walk-in chillers and freezers, place the sensor at approximately head height on the wall opposite the evaporator.

Battery installation

The SNZB-02LD uses a CR2450 coin cell battery. To install:

  1. Press the small tab on the side of the sensor to open the battery compartment
  2. Insert the battery with the + side facing up
  3. The LED will flash briefly to confirm power

Troubleshooting pairing

Sensor not detected after 60 seconds : Try pressing the reset button again for a full 5 seconds. The LED should flash rapidly. If the hub pairing window has expired, start the pairing process again in the hub UI.

Sensor disappears from the list : This can happen if the sensor loses power or moves out of range. Ensure the battery is correctly installed and the sensor is within range of the Pi (approximately 10–20 m through walls).

LED does not flash at all : The battery may be flat or incorrectly inserted. Try a new CR2450 battery.
